LANGUAGES SERVICES FOR MIGRANTS
In the context of the “Language chaperon service” for non-French speaking migrants in Geneva, we have put together for the year 2009-2010 a second community interpreters group. Community language chaperons will assist migrant families in their encounters with schools. This new group of interpreters will receive training on techniques such as trialogue and will receive all relevant information about the Geneva school system and its way of operating. Today, more than 30 volunteer interpreters are committed to facilitating dialogue among migrant families and school. In this way, we are looking for motivated volunteers community interpreters. If you are interested in collaborating on this project, please do not hesitate to contact us.

CALL FOR CREATION GALLERY
"Different views on the environment, citizenship and volunteering"
In 2009, ICV has organized a call for creative photography and a photo exhibition to the theme of "Environment, Citizenship and Volunteering". As a result, we received close to 350 images providing a perspective from 60 countries. 80 of 350 photographs were exhibited at "La Galerie" in Geneva, a journey from China to Peru, from India to Kazakhstan and Nigeria. Given the success of this project, we decided to launch a second call for creative photography, this time in collaboration with our network of schools. We focus on photography by students and young people. ICV invites schools and students to share their vision and look on the theme: ”Diverse perspectives on the environment, citizenship and volunteerism”.

E-TIC ... MORE
Teaching in Mali and Senegal
This project is taking shape with ongoing commitment in the field (Mali and Senegal) of our coordinators. They have collected a range of social and economic information about agriculture and husbandry in the Sahel region. Interviews were conducted with village leaders and communities (see website: www.E-TIC.net). After discussions with our teams on site and our office in Barcelona with "water" specialists, we plan to introduce this project a new dimension related to "water for all". Improving quality of life in communities through education, awareness about hygiene and clean water, as well as the management and maintenance of facilities is incorporated into this project a vital issue. The focus of the project remains, however, on the link between new technologies and information for farmers and herders to help them meet their needs and improve their living conditions (self-reliance and autonomy) in a perspective of sustainable development. We also wish to encourage the marketing of farm products to generate more economic resources. The link between water and the enhancement of farm land find its full meaning.

Upcoming events: from 22 to 23 March 2010 will take place the “2nd International Congress to Fight Poverty and Exclusion”.Volunteers will be in charge of interpretation. During the same period (21 to 23 March 2010) the Earth Focus Foundation is organizing the “Global Issues Network” conference in Geneva and welcoming volunteers will assist with organizational tasks.
